If you want to improve your CW skills, work some new states, see how good your rig is, hear the bands fill up with CW or just have a good time, try the CW SS this weekend.
Starts Saturday afternoon and goes till Sunday night. Work up to 24 hours of the 30. Full rules and details here:
http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2009/novss.html
SS is diferent from most other contests in that the exchange is longer and more complicated, and you can only work other stations once. And since it's primarily a North American contest, you don't need a big DX setup to have a good time.
My first was in 1968, and I've only missed one since then.
Hope CU in SS 2009!

You might mention that it's perfectly okay to work all 30 hours if you don't intend to "enter" the contest and are just fooling around working stations.

To WB2WIK:
Good point! But for most hams, 24 hours in 30 is more than enough.
I recall reading somewhere that a famous ham in a rare section (KH6IJ?) would work beyond the time limit, but not claim the QSOs made after the max time for points. He did it to hand out his rare section to more hams.
But that was a long time ago.

Thanks for the reminder, Jim.
Hope you have a great time in Sweepstakes CW,
and to work you.
For me, even 24 hours is too much; I'm lucky
to make 18!
All good fun.
