New Morse code tutor for Palm Pilot available Reply

Hey everybody!

I wrote a new piece of software for the Palm OS that teaches Morse code. Yup, I know some already exist, but after trying them, I wasn't super impressed.

So, here you go:

http://abcMorse.com/

Nice sound setup, including Farnsworth, adjustable word spacing speed, CODEX speed standard optional, various tones or notes, and adjustable dot/dash ratios.

Some big (full screen) fonts in free-run mode, easier on my eyes when I'm just listening in the car an want to check just the odd character.

It also tracks your lessons and counts the total time you've been practicing each set.

A to-morse-and-back text translator thrown in just for fun.

Code tables, Q code list, a Q code quiz, and ProSign and abbreviation lists.

The higher speeds need a registration, but lower speeds and all the reference/lookup/info/quiz is free.

If anyone has any feedback, just let me know.

Cheers!
Anders

Nice program and breaks up groups in novel manners so that its easier to practice problem letters in this software than in others.

Free version goes to a max of 8 words per minute (sent rate), so it is hard to get the image of the letters. To go faster, you need to pay $15 to get a registration key.

Thanks for the kind feedback. :)

I tried to put as much functionality into the free part of the program as possible so that the folks who are just casually playing with Morse can do what they need. I'm guessing most folks will just play with the blinking backlight to show their friends. *grin*

I'm hoping that a couple people do register so that the web site name and hosting gets paid for. I started writing it for myself and the project got out of hand, and then I figured I should share it... hopefully it will get more folks interested in CW!

Cheers,
Anders

Registered my copy and the extra speed settings really help. In the next version, I would add settings that will allow you to get words at one speed and letters sent at faster rates (more time between letters but leave the letters sounding like they do on the radio.)

I'm not sure _exactly_ what you're asking for. Let's see if this helps. :)

The "Speed of each letter" setting lets you set the letter speed independent of everything else. Then the Farnsworth speed lets you set the length of the spaces between the letters. Then the word space speed lets you adjust for additional delays between entire words.

Try a Letter speed of 20 (they seem to be about that speed on the repeaters around here), a Farnsworth speed of 5, and a word space speed of 5.

If that doesn't do it, just keep explaining and I'll see what I can do for you. :) I'll write up some more documentation about how the speed settings work too.

Cheers,
Anders

These settings seem to work.

New problem.

I am going through the letters and punctuation and wanted to translate some QSO's. I have tried several times to get it to load, but it causes a fatal error reset on my Tungsten T3 each time. The rest works fine, just the option to listen to QSO's.

There was a problem with version 2.0.3 like that. It was fixed in version 2.0.4. What version do you have?

Cheers,
Anders

The site is unavailable, which is a real pity as I quite fancied having a go.... :(

http://abcmorse.com/ should redirect to http://linaracing.com/abcmorse/index.php which is where you can still download the software. :)
