Buxcomm Windom OCF - Shoddy Junk Reply
by N4WEQ on September 8, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
I purchased a Buxcomm Windom 80-6 OCF antenna a couple of weeks ago and noticed the short leg had two wire splices and the long had one. This is straight out of the box. The joints had been wire crimped with a heat shrink over it. Also, the heat shrink at the point where the wire connects to the balun had slipped off and was showing bear copper to which I used almost a roll of coax-seal to fix. I thought what the heck; it looked like they made the whole thing out of wire scraps.

Well, I wanted to see if what they say about OCF antennas was right so I put it up in the trees. Yea, I know, should have sent it back right then.

Yesterday I was working 20 meters and noticed my SWR was off. Wandered out to the back yard and here was the short side of the antenna flopping on the ground. Thank God neither of the wife’s dogs was out there at the time. Come to find out the crimp was gone from the short end insulator.
I got a hold of Buxcomm support asking for a return and here’s what nice crew of professionals said:

“sorry, AS STATED IN THE Ship & Returns policy. No Return on antennas that have been installed.

Reconnect the splice and it will perform as stated.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “.

Well, okay, I can do that, but I bet the other splices are going to fail also. Anyway, what’s the deal on using splices? So much for Buxcomm customer support and products. Never again!

I've had my Buxcomm OCF up for 3 yrs and never a problem nor any splices.I keep reading different complaints on dealing with them and wondering if this is a more recent attitude of the company as it seems that most the complaints have sprang up in just the last yr or so.

I agree about their customer service. I purchased one of their Rascals a few years ago. When I had difficulties getting it to work, I emailed them. The response back was in English and fake German mix, and the help given did not solve my problem. They do have a nice web page which is probably why folks still purchase from this guy. I have not been stung by this guy again, and will never purchase from him.

Folks, please read the forums about the terrible reports about Buxcomm before you even think of making a purchase.
