I am interested in advice from more experienced hams on setting up for winter field day. I would like to suggest that our club set up somewhere in town (visible to public) to promote the club and ARES. I however am very new with little to no experience. That is why I am turning to you? What can you share with me?
Thanks,

There is one group I know of that already does this:

Thier 2007 results are listed below, not HUGE, but at least you would have someone to talk to with a similar purpose?

Steven,
We here in Fl while its not a regular Field Day per se, in Jan we are having a small get together with both club and ARES members. We are going to a pre planned site, will have generators, etc.. We will be on total emergency power, again, its not going to be anything fancy, just a bunch of getting together, setting up and operating with different types of antennas. Look for us on 17 Jan 09, we will be operating as W4OT on hopefully ALL bands from 40-10 meters. It is not like WE have to make as many contacts as possible, no pressure, just to go out and have a good time.

There is also a QRP-only winter Field Day; "Freeze
Your Butt Off", sponsored by the Arizone ScQRPions:
http://www.azscqrpions.org/ScQRPion_OPERATING_EVENTS.htm
A word of warning; QRP contests are mostly CW, so if
you don't have some active morse operators in your
group, the pickings will be slim.
But QRP outdoor events are easy and cheap to deploy;
you can use gel cell SLA or 'AA' batteries, so it's
not necessary to arrange for a gasoline powered
generator.
