My first field day Reply

I just got licensed in December of 2008, so this was my first Field Day experience. Originally I had planned to haul my gear to a local mountain top, in fact I just purchased my battery last weekend. Well my plans changed at the last minute and I ended up driving from AZ to CO over the Field Day weekend…. As it turned out I worked contacts most of Saturday and part of Sunday as I drove, was lots of fun.

This was actually the first real test of my mobile installation. An ICOM IC-7000 and the AH-4 Coupler, connected to a stainless mast 30 inch and a 102 inch whip. As I drove I could hear signals come and go on various frequencies, but most of my time was straight line travel across 40 and later up 25. I was amazed that I could talk to almost everyone that I could hear, all I had to do was try. It seemed that adding MOBILE to the end of my call sign really helped me get through the pile ups.

Maybe I answered your CQ CQ FIELD DAY….

Very cool!

It gets addictive...I did my 1st FD in 1978, when I was 14. Still get a charge out of it.
