Ohio QSO Party Reply

New this year.

Prizes
All Entries to the Ohio QSO Party this year will be placed in a drawing for a netbook. Look here soon for more information

Rule Changes
Digital is now considered a valid mode.
QSOs on 20m,15m,10m are worth 4 points. Good way to boost your score and give more people in the world a chance to work Ohio.

Ohio is much too close to me for 10-15 & 20.

40 & 80, yes, but not the higher bands.

40 is even pushing it, I'm no more than 15-20 miles
(airline miles) from Steubenville.

N8VW doesn't run or sponsor the Ohio QSO party. It is sponsored by the Mad River Radio Club. The new OQP website is located at www.ohqp.org. There have been no changes in the rules allowing digital contacts.

WOW!!

Is someone actually trying to hijack a QSO Party???

Well, I just can't wait until I'm stationed back home next year and can operate in as well state QSO parties as possible.

Sure wish I had a license here in the Land of the Morning Calm, though...

Re Hijacking

Some state QSO parties are highly organized formal contests, others are more relaxed and just a way to stir up statewide activity on as many bands and modes as possible.

What doesn't help is for the organization running things to have the event hijacked. I understand that some people like digital modes and I understand the attraction. But I think it's a valid call for the organizers of a QSO party to decide on what modes and bands they want to emphasize activity. Certainly for some of the sparsely populated states (Ohio does not fall in this category!), you don't want to spread things too thin.

How did you all do in the OQP?
I was only able to work for 2 hours from my base station in Meigs county but I got 30 Ohio counties, mostly new ones, and all of them on 80 meters from a low dipole.
