Ohio State Parks on the Air Reply

This is one of my favorite contests. Worded over 30 parks all on 80 meters. I tried an NVIS 40 meter dipole antenna and no luck. It appears that the state parks weren't getting to Ohio on 40 meters either, and I am sure they all had NVIS antennas because they wanted to work other parks. 6 new Ohio counties.

Indiana was thinking about having a similar party but it never materialized. Maybe next year OH and IN could get together on the same date.

Congratulations to the Ohio State Parks on the Air operation and those who worked them! We were running the Abraham Lincoln Special Event station (W9L) from Lincoln State Park in Indiana while the Ohio POTA was taking place so we managed to 'snag' a few of those contacts as well.

I am part of a group in Indiana that you may be referring to in regard to Parks on the Air. Several of us have discussed such an operation but our idea was slightly different. Rather than attempt to put all the Indiana State Parks on the air at one time we thought about trying to organize an IOTA-style operation in which there would be a list of national/state/provincial parks and various groups would activate a particular park much like activating an island. Parks could then be 'collected' just like islands are today. Some parks would be more difficult to activate than others due to operating or administrative issues. If anyone has thought about a similar operation or would like to pursue this idea please feel free to contact me.

In either type of POTA operation (all at once or IOTA-style) I think the idea of operating from a park is a great thing. We had a tremendous amount of fun running the Lincoln Special Event from a park and we look forward to similar operations in the future.
