I'll be around.
I sure hope there is some decent activity.
Seems like when there is a new contest, or one that becomes active again after several years of being dormant, there is little activity.
Nothing else doing this weekend, and there were LOTS of NY stations active in last weeks PA QP, so it is payback time.
I'll be GLAD to hand out some points from Pennsylvania.

The activity from New York was rather dismal.
I had hoped for more stations to be active.
Since I am only about 100 miles south of the NY line, only 40 & 80 are viable bands.
With several hours dedicated to the QSO Party,
I made a WHOPPING 29 Q's.
Mostly CW.
Maybe next year.

Having never operated in any other state QSO parties, I don't have a feel for how good the level of participation was.
I was expecting to hear more NY stations calling CQ as I tuned the bands, but don't know whether there were actually fewer than I expected, or just wasn't hearing enough of those that were on because of band conditions. On the other hand, I got lots of out-of-state responses when I was running, so I surmise that there was significant interest around the country.
There wasn't much on 20 meters, both as a result of continuing poor band conditions and --I believe-- the likely strategies of NY contest participants.
The only mults available to NY stations were NY counties -- and the bands to work NY State from within NY State would be 40 and 75. So I think that's where most of the NY stations would be calling CQ.
At least that's what I did -- mostly on 75, with good results.
I put in just over six hours, SOLP SSB and logged 213 QSOs with 37 of the 62 NY counties.
We had seven members of the Order of Boiled Owls of New York contest club in the hunt -- logging a total of 995 QSOs spread across all three modes (CW, SSB & Digital) and 160 through 20 meters.
And it was great fun!

See below.
The multipliers for NY stations are listed.
NY Stations
· Count U.S. states (50), NY Counties (62) and Canadian Provinces (9): MAR, NL, QC, ON, MB,
SK, AB, BC, NT (Northern Territories, Yukon, Nunavut Territories)
Maximum of 121 multipliers
Having just completed the PA QSO Party last week, and the California QSO Party the weekend before, I can tell you that participation in NY was LOW.
Of course, since there has been NO NYQP for apparently several years, it does not seem unusual for low participation within the state.
In the years to come, participation should increase as amateurs in NY are made aware of the QP and interest increases.
Pennsylvania and California were a BLAST !!!!
As a PA resident, I had 522 Q's, 104 multipliers
for 72,000+ points in the PAQP.
And frankly, my station sucks.
100 watts and a chunk of zip cord.

Yes, Bill.
You're absolutely correct about the mults -- which I do know, since I scored 28 states/provinces along with my 37 NY counties.
But I think my concept is still valid -- trying to get as many NY mults as possible would keep manystations (like me) on 80 or 40.
But I don't disagree that participation may, indeed, have been low.
I worked lots of Monroe County stations, presumably members of the sponsoring Rochester DX Association, so they certainly supported their own effort.
And, as I said, my contest club did its part. :)

Sorry,
I misunderstood...I thought you meant the ONLY MULTIs
available to NY were the NY counties.

Don't tell that to the hams in Kansas!
They revived their state QSO party after an
absence of many years, yet their event had
a lot of vitality.
Having a successful state QSO party requires
a LOT of promotion; drumming up in- and out-
of state interest. Organizers of state QSO
parties in some smaller states even recruit
HF mobile operators to come in from out-of-state.
It may be tough for NY in part because three
separate state QSO parties occured on one
weekend; Iowa, New York, and Illinois (which
is a big one).

True about the Kansas QSOP. I missed it this year.
Some of the Kansas OM also came to Texas for the TQP last month.
So, we "owe" them and need to go mobile in Kansas next year. :)
Next year I'm looking at doing mobile in LAQP, OKQP and the Kansas QP (as time permits) before doing the TXQP.
