I assume "country" in the points section of the rules is the same as DXCC entities (i.e. Alaska and Hawaii are different "countries"). Is this true? TIA 73 de Eric, KG6MZS

40m is ROUGH here. Of course, getting thru with 100 watts and a vertical is always tough in the first few hours. It will be AMAZING how well DX will be able to hear tomorrow and sunday when they are begging for Q's. GL G-DX !

Being a cw contester fot the most part I had forgotten how spoiled I am with good filters for cw but nothing for ssb. SSB Gives me a headache, Hi. GL Ray

This was a tough contest with my 100 watts and a 43 foot vertical in the Midwest. Friday night is always tough, but many DX stations still attracted pileups on Sunday. 20 was NEVER easy. Heard almost no workable DX on 80 or 160. But 15 was good for this stage of the sunspot cycle and I made a few South American Q's on 10 meters (with a vertical that is supposed to radiate straight up on that band). Need to get some high dipoles up for the CW weekend next month. CW is definitely more fun for limited stations (and vocal power)

Addressing your question, "country" in the CQWW is NOT always same as an ARRL DXCC country. The subtle difference is that the CQWW country list applies the WAE (Worked All Europe) list as well. Therefore Sicily, the Shetland Islands (by Scotland) and some Italian Islands count as countries. At least I'm pretty sure that's still the case. Logging software, if updated before the contest, should handle these correctly.

Thanks for the clarification. Mostly I just didn't want to annoy the real contest folks by not giving them any points. Had some decent DX on Friday evening (the only day I could play) with a 100 watts barefoot and a wire. Bunch of Japanese stations and Asiatic Russians on 20m and I actually got a new one - Greenland!
