Kentucky QSO Party Reply
by KD8IZZ on November 3, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
I worked the KY QSO party last year and only heard a few stations. But I am in southern Ohio and possibly too close for anything but 80 meters which I didn't have an antenna for.

Anyone know how many counties are to be activated this year? Or how many were activated last year? I have an 80 and 160 meter antenna this year!

By the number of replies (zero) I suspect this QSO party will be dismal. I'll try anyways.

I will participate in the Kentucky QSOP for the first time this year because the folks in Kentucky will provide a cerificate for ANY participation, NOT JUST for high category in this or that. This practice is very similar to what the folks here in Virginia do for their QSO Party in March. This distinction alone should encourage many folks to pick up the mic and make the call. As soon as I get off the clock, I will be in the thick of it...what are YOU waiting for??

I listened around for several hours trying to gather some counties and didn't hear any active QSOP stations from Ky. Guess I should start activating my own station during QSOP.

I ended up doing alright. About 20 contacts on 40 meters and some more on 80. I would have had more but 40 got too long in the afternoon for my vertical, should have put up a NVIS dipole.
