ASIATIC RUSSIA CONTACT Reply
by AF3Y on November 5, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
I worked Andy, UA0IT in February, worked him again last month and again yesterday. All contacts were 20m CW. I sent him a card and IRC for the first two contacts, and have yet to get a card back from him. Emails to his QRZ.com address have been returned. Anyone have this problem????? Gene

I'd just suggest working another one. Plenty of Zone 17 guys out there every day, especially 20 and 40 CW. Granted UA0i is in a pretty difficult part of Russia and is in rare Zone 19, but if you're just looking for Asiatic Russia confirmed (any zone), just look for any UA9/RA9/UA0. Plenty of 'em on LoTW, tool, and many have great signals to North America.

I got a card from him via the bureau that he sent me first, so he does QSL. Also look for RW0IZ from the same city. Ray also sent me his card via buro first. I think both of them are on 20m CW quite a bit. 73.

I worked Andy in February last year and sent him a card direct. Since I hadn't received his card after several months, I sent a second card for a more recent QSO. Sure enough, not long after I sent the second card, his card arrived in the mail. A couple of months later I received a second card from him.

Lesson learned: Some guys just don't get around to working their QSL requests very often, but they eventually do. On the other hand, my return rate for other Russian stations has been below average, perhaps due to postal workers looking for green stamps.

I will just try to snag another one. I have WAZ, mixed and phone, but need zones 18 and 19 to complete the "trifecta" with CW WAZ. Funny, 18 and 19 were the same last two I needed and worked for my mixed WAZ.

I have cards from Andy via the Bureau, about two years after the contacts.

He's a good guy and evidently does QSL, it just takes a while.

One more ad to our small project - to decide whether the guy is "good" (does QSL at all)

http://adok.dyndns.org/stat?call=ua0it

It says that the guy DOES qsl, it just takes a while. Obviously it takes time to get cards from Magadan to Moscow ;)

The more people we get involved in our project the better "picture" we have deciding whether the guy is "a good qsl-er". All you have to do is to upload your adif log to our service. It will go through your log and extract QSL data from there. Takes only few minutes..
