LOTW Users Reply

I order to get more DX to sign-up and use the Logbook of the World which would aid all users, it would be advantagous to have a listing of the current DX using LOTW. If LOTW had a simple search for users in a given country, a separate list wouldn't be very useful. But, until such a search feature is added to LOTW, a list would help stations looking for QSLs to get them without bothering with postage and the long delays getting cards back, by simply working one of the stations already on LOTW. I believe that if a list of DX users became a reality, more DXers would want to be listed on it to minimize the hand work of filling out cards. I would be willing to host such a free list on my bbcyber.com website, if enough people are interested and would help by providing the callsigns of the DX that uses LOTW.

Upon research on this subject, Robert, HB9BZA has a page on his website that has 1800+ callsigns of users of LOTW. I may duplicate the list on my site, minus the US calls to keep the list smaller.

If you're looking for a particular DX station (as opposed to a general list) you can try the "Find Call" button.

LOTW will tell you either "No log data found" which means either they aren't registered with LOTW or have never submitted a log, or something like "Last upload for <DXCALL>: 2005-06-24 20:00:00Z", which means they are registered and that's the last time they sent a log (but it could be a log with QSO's from 5 years ago, nothing recent).

After the WPX contest, I tried this on a few DX countries I need, and noticed one in particular had submitted logs in the past, so I didn't send out a QSL card to that station. Sure enough, not too long afterwards, it was confirmed in LOTW. I sent out QSL cards for the other stations.

Got with Robert, HB9BZA and we combined the two lists of LoTW users. A link to his website is on my website. Robert is handling the list and updates to it and I have the database which I combined with a country list to provide Country, Prefix, and Zone for each callsign. For example, you can search by country and return all the LoTW user callsigns for that country. The List is on his website (google on his call). I have added a free searchable database of LoTW users which I update daily. As of today there are 6386 callsigns and 268 countries represented in the database. This compares to 15340 certificates active or about 41 percent of the total available callsigns. To use it, goto www.bbcyber.com and click the link to the database. To obtain callsigns to add, Robert is using QSL reports downloaded from LoTW by a user. The user then sends him the file and he parses out the callsigns automatically with some software. The list is growing at about 75-100 callsigns per day. I've also entered into LoTW, my logs from VP5X, ZD8BB, and portable operations from KW6, KG6, and KS6 from back in 1968-1976 plus all my old logs from state-side callsigns.

Free LoTW User Query Software Utility Reply

To aid in determining whether a station that you are hearing is using LoTW, I have made available a free software that uses the database of LoTW users compiled by HB9BZA and myself. Currently HB9BZA is maintaining the list and I am maintaining a searchable database driven by the same listing. Updates have been daily, but recently new callsign information has slowed and the list is being updated every few days. Currently LoTW claims over 15,400 callsigns are registered and we have 9136 of them in the database. The main use for this list and the free utility program is that it can be used to easily identify, in real-time, those stations that upload their logs to LoTW, suggesting that it will be easier to obtain electronic QSLs to be used for ARRL sponsored awards, such as DXCC, 5BDXCC, etc. Download the program at http://www.bbcyber.com. See the same website for information on how you can help add callsigns to the list.
