Aw, condx aren't *that* bad, but the problem is nobody's going anywhere pileupworthy. Nice openings to Asia most mornings; worked Larry on Diego Garcia on 40 with 100W and one call two nights ago, plus Iraq, San Marino and Crete on 40 last night - and tons of Europeans on 20...just nothing exciting.
Sadly this year's chance at A5 isn't going to happen, since the operator going there became a SK enroute, while in 9N-land. Next "good ones" should be 4W, Petrus on ZS8 and that's about it until Glorioso and Willis the fall.

AGREED! Nothing of interest to work, at least not at my QTH lately. I can work Europe and Asia without much trouble, and of course South America.. Heck, I can work almost anywhere, but there are just no NEW ONES that I need popping up. 20 meters has been very active late afternoons, and both 40 and 80 have been good at night, but for the big time QRN.
Sometimes I feel like tossing 3 or 4 big cloth sacks of silica gel in the shack, locking it up, and just checking the clusters once every couple weeks or so, as well as the solar sites, until things get better. But then again, as some have said, calling CQ is very productive, even if its not a needed entity. Perhaps all the good expeditions a while back kind of spoiled us??
Got my J5C card today, as well as a card from PRC, so it was not a total loss. Hang in their guys, better DX days are coming!! 73, Gene

I got started DXing a little more than a year and a half ago, yes, at the bottom of the solar cycle. With my 100 watts and an antenna restricted lot, it's been a slow march toward DXCC. I'm not quite there yet, so there are a lot more entities I don't have than the ones I do. I was happy to get ZL7M, Chatham Island, last night and had a good chance at El Salvador.
In other words, those of us still relatively new to the game can still have fun finding new ones that mean nothing to the guys on the DXCC honor roll. I just hope I don't get bored with the new ones rolling in when the solar flux goes over 100...
In the meantime, the sporadic E season is just starting, so perhaps it's time to pick off some more grids on six meters.

"I was happy to get ZL7M, Chatham Island, last night"
Now that's some good DX and should be workable for most of us even at sunspot bottom on most bands (like VP6DX was)
I don't know about y'all but I need ZL7 on a LOT of bands. I have it on a couple, but weirdly only on 40m and 10m.

Dan

Heard JM7OLW 449 at 8:30 AM 5/10, with my 1500 watts and log periodic he couldnt hear me. Asiatic Russia 5 minutes later, same outcome. Yawn. Lets face it, things are not good.

That seems strange.
"Yawn. Lets face it, things are not good."
You can't really blame this on propagation. If you can hear them there's a path. It's probably usually that you have a quieter location by several dB or the guy on the other end is running at least several dB more power than you are.
Maybe the UA0/9 station was running 10kW ;-)

Dan

My rig will be parked on 10 meters most days when conditions improve. I clearly remember sitting in the parking lot of my apartment one early evening back in 1998 working Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, all with 25 watts and a mobile antenna. Now that was cool!
