UA4WHX QSL cards Reply
by M0SCH on June 7, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
Hi everybody,

just wondering: is anybody else still expecting QSL-cards from UA4WHX? I sent him a direct card for 9U0VB and 7Q7VB quite a long time ago (>1.5 years) and haven't got a reply since.

Best wishes,

Chris M0SCH

Chris--

Typically his cards take a long time to get to you, because he fills each one out by hand.

All of the Africans (3 or 4 of them, I think) that I anticipate receiving from him are way over a year old. I have actually worked/received cards from all of them since, so when/if his cards come, they would be dupe cards. 73, de Gene AF3Y

I received all of mine (I think it was six or more countries, I lost track, but I did get everything).

By all reports, it's an entirely "by hand" process. He apparently accepts help, but you have to be willing to deal with paper logs and do something like show up at his house or some such. I forget the details, but he pretty much has it set up so he'll be doing most of the work himself. All things considered, a massive job.

So, it's going to be slow. I still see word on the 'net that the cards continue to come out.

It's easy for me to call for patience -- I got my cards, after all.

Still, it took over a year and I have no idea why I got mine when I did.

Me, overall, I'm very grateful to UA4WHX, but it really is a situation where patience is called for.

All I know is, if he does another one of these "extended tours" to Africa or anywhere else, I'll still be at the head of the pileup with everyone else trying to get my QSOs done. Again.

I finally received my second big mailing from Vlad about a week or so ago, and that closes the book on UA4WHX's African odyssey for me. I got a mailing last September which contained cards from roughly the first half of his operations but the ones I needed for All-Time New Ones weren't in there.

Before I realized he was on a tour, I sent individual requests to him for J2 and J5 (then-new ones back in 2005), and another request about a year later. Those came back in Sept last year. After his tour ended, I sent a request for everything again, with yet more IRCs. That one obviously got "lost" in the mail. I was ready to give up, but figured one more would be a charm, and I sent it off on April 2nd this year, which I followed up with an e-mail. Vlad confirmed its receipt and said my cards would come out in the following batch, and sure enough, everything came back as hoped-for.

Vlad gave me a bunch I'd never worked before (J2, J5, 7P, 9X, TN and D6). I managed to work and confirm all of these while waiting for his cards, with the exception of D6. Even with the 2+ year wait, it was worth it. Great cards, amazing photographs that will proudly go in my display album and a lot of excitement on the bands.

Anybody having trouble still, I'd suggest dropping Vlad an e-mail. According to posts I've seen, he's replied to most of the direct requests that he's received, so you may need to send again.

Thanks a lot for the replies!

Well, I guess I will just wait a bit longer and see. I think the most likely thing which could have happened is that they got lost in the mailing system.

Best wishes,

Chris M0SCH

I sent a first request to Vlad over two years ago, maybe more. I never got a reply. I had enclosed US currency.

The second request I sent last May (08) and had a reply in 2 months or less.
I used an IRC in the second request.

I suspect, but cannot prove that the first shipment to him was stolen at the Post Office in Russia
(or other intermediary location)
