Worked S92LX on 20m CW this morning. He had a huge signal to S.C., as expected. I am sorta surprised that this one is not in the "Top 100" wanted DXCC, as I have never even seen Sao Tome & Principe spotted before, much less heard them. Of course, I am a "newbie" DXer, with just over three years of serious DXing. But, it's an Alltime New One (#252)for me, rare or not! Gene AF3Y

There was a ham, S9SS, that worked at the VOA station. He was extremely active until he retired a couple years ago and moved back to the US. That's probably why you haven't seen S9 in the top 100 list lately.
But a new one is a new one - Congratulations!

"That's probably why you haven't seen S9 in the top 100 list lately. "

That's certainly why it's not in my list.

S9SS had a great signal and was a great op, and seemed pretty active.

Before him, I'd never heard one.

There was also decent activity pre 2006. Looking back at my log from 2002 to 2004 was (besides S9SS) S92JHF, S9A, S9BB, S9MX, and S9LA.

I believe there was also an expedition to Principe, but I never worked them.

It all just depends when you were on the air. With all the expeditions to ZK3, I still need that one.

Charles S9SS was very active until his retirement and return to the US which was about 18 months ago.

S92LX was strong here in Western PA last night on 40m CW
and I was able to get thru on about the 10th or 15th
call. I only have Sao Tome confirmed by Charles on phone, so I guess I have to send for a card to get a CW confirmation.

Talk about a QUICK turnaround, my card from S92LX (George, DK7LX) arrived this morning, for QSO's of 15 and 22 June, 2009. (This one is #249 Confirmed!). Wish all of my cards would come this quickly! 73, Gene AF3Y
