http://dx-hamspirit.com has the blurb about 7O. Sorry, I forgot to add it to my post above. Gene

Just saw on the cluster announcements that the 7O1YGF expedition of 2000 HAS been approved for DXCC. (Sigh... Wish I had been chasing DX then.) Hope at least some of you have it confirmed. Gene

Heartiest congrats to those who snagged that DX-ped - I'll bet at least a few now have made Honor Roll and maybe even top of Honor Roll!

Yes, I was very pleased to learn the news about 7O1YGF counting, as this one will put me on the mixed HR at last!

Yah-hoo! That's #337 with just Navassa to go. Now where did I put that little reject from Y2K? Just kidding, I know right where it is, the only card in the Yemen file. I had to find several old IOTA cards a few years back when they did a "do-over." Better late than never.

OK, 7O1YGF cards are in hand. I have exactly 3 qsos with them on 20, 17, and 15-meters; 1 each of cw, ssb, and rtty. How's that for efficiency? There is also a card for 7O1A from 1996 that wasn't good either. It's for 40-meters. I don't suppose it's likely that one will be approved as well. I'll keep it a while longer.

GL and 73 to all still chasing 7O!

AA8LL,

Navassa? You and me both! last one for #1!

Even with Navassa (which is rumoured for next year), I suspect a lot of people will be stuck for some years waiting for P5 for them to get to #1 Honor Roll.. Macquarie was another one that took me a long time.

Ah, yes, P5. Some of the locals asked me how I managed to break the brutal pile-up for the fellow from Georgia. I worked him on 10-meters! The worm hole opened up over Dayton and there was NO pile-up. Five minutes later, he was gone.

Macquarie wasn't especially hard to work, but was tricky to confirm. He was on most every day but would only work stateside one day and only EU another. He threatened to blacklist you for calling on the wrong day, putting him on the DX cluster, or making more than two qso's. I got two bands on cw but was afraid to try for a phone qso. Finally, after he finished his tour on Macquarie, he announced he would only QSL by eqsl, that was not good for DXCC. I don't know if he was just messing with us or got a few threats of his own. Eventually the paper QSLs came out.

So, there's a rumor for Navassa! I'm waiting.
73,
Wade AA8LL

With this week's buzz about Yemen I gotta hope that there are some wizards of DX out there with the money and ability to activate something truly rare and special one of these years. When I look at my log, even though I have 317 in there now, really there's only a couple of ultra-rare ones (Scarborough Reef, VU4 and VU7), but nothing else that I'd consider super-exotic and very difficult. In fact, I'd venture to say that after the Andaman/Nicobar and Laccadives operations from a couple of years ago that dropped demand for those two way down, there are probably only three remaining in that ultra-rare category (as workable from eastern North America) -- BS7, P5 and 7O. KP5 doesn't count since, although rare, it's a chip-shot. I'll say the same to KP1 when it comes back eventually.

While I'd love to see places like Marion, Amsterdam/St. Paul, Macquarrie, Heard and Crozet (amongst others) these are places that are just expensive and/or inconvenient to activate; they're not generally "forbidden territories" like Yemen and P5 for us, KP1/KP5 for Asian residents or KH1/KH5K for Europeans. Sadly, I didn't have a good enough station to work Ed in P5 at the time, and I missed 7O1YGF by a year, so I'm still in the hunt for both of these.

As I look through ADXO, I'm glad to see three potential all-time New Ones waiting for me in the next 8 months (Midway, Conway and Glorioso) as well as band/mode-fills for a few semi-rare places like Chesterfield and Vietnam but I also see a lot of the same-old places coming up that have been activated many times in the past 9 or 10 years. For those considering a DXpedition, are there any adventurous souls out there who can wrangle access to some places truly rare for The Deserving? Places that haven't seen a signal in over 10 years and that would capture world-wide interest the way BS7 did?
