I'm hoping KP1 when it appears will be an easy one from here. Only I'm in the process of rebuilding my amplifier - a process that has been ongoing since September 2006......one mustn't rush these things! Even so, 100 watts to a 4 ele Steppir at 62 feet should make it pretty much a chip shot from here....

Heck, I would even be happy to see Scarborough back on the air. Like you with P5, I did not have enough "oomph" here to work BS7 at the time, but beliieve I could make it now, even with just "sorta decent" conditions.
You said: "When I look at my log, even though I have 317 in there now, really there's only a couple of ultra-rare ones (Scarborough Reef, VU4 and VU7), but nothing else that I'd consider super-exotic and very difficult."
Hmmm... I worked VU7 easily a while back, even on SSB. Did not think it was that tough. Guess it proves that anywhere can be had at the right time.
Fall is coming, and some pretty good expeditions due, as least for my DXCC needs. With 252 worked and 250 confirmed, there are still a few "easy ones" even with conditions in the crapper.
Maybe some day, we will even have good conditions again. Since I have only been chasing DX for a bit over 3 years, I have never experienced the top of the cycle, wide open 10 meters, etc. etc.. I am ready and waiting!! 73 es gud DX, Gene

Navassa is rare?? Heck, I worked NF6S/KP1 in 1993 using a Heathkit SB102 and an indoor dipole. Finally got 6Y5NR/KP1 (1985) confirmed last year for KP1 on 15 meters. Talk about a slow QSL.

Yes, KP1 is rare, just as VP2M is medium and VP5 is well done. :)

Gene, VU7 was rare because it had been closed to hams for a very long time (mid-80s, I think, was the last time it was active before the recent two operations). VU4 was the same. KP1 is the same, and until recently, ditto for KP5.
I think it's one thing when a major operation activates a remote, expensive-to-operate-from DXpedition (think Peter 1), but it's far more exciting when a place opens up that had been officially closed to hamming for more than a generation. Now I'm seriously angry with myself for not trying to work Martti on more bands when he did the final actiavation of AH3D a few years back. I got him only on 3 bands, and only on SSB. I'm betting it will be a very long time before we ever see that one on the air again.

Hopefully, with the K5D guy's doing a pretty darn good job, a few of those closed spots will open back up.
I'm kinda p.o. at myself for not for not getting a KH3AF card when I could, back in the early '90's. I wasn't too concerned with getting cards back then, mainly because it was a bit more difficult to find addresses, at least it was for me. His call is still active, qrz info updated this year, but no reply. Maybe he doesn't do ham anymore.
Oh well, you snoose you lose.
If anyone is interested, or doesn't know yet, the C21TI guys fired it up last night, decent signal into TX.
73, Tom

C21TI has been unworkable here in SC so far, at least when I have tried. Bands have been pretty noisy,(especially 40) and I just cant quite dig em out yet. Got up at 5AM local this morning, and saw them spotted on 40 CW, but no luck here (QRN & QSB)... Hopefully, I can work em before they leave, as that would be an alltime new one. If I miss this one, I dont think its a big deal, as I feel sure there will be another C2 activation before too long.
