Hi guys,
i wanna buy a cheaper transceiver for my base using.
So there are FT840 and IC718 to choose.

both price are almost. i know IC718 has FSK, but FT840 only has AFSK(my FT857d also). But the filter for IC718 is much more expensive than FT840.

So anybody has suggestion? which one i should pick it up?

I used an IC-718 for 4 years on all modes and even participated in several of the TARA PSK contests. It was a reliable rig and did an excellent job.

I know nothing of the FT-840.

You don't use FSK for the digital modes. You transmit in SSB using an interface (homebrew or other). I've operated digital with both radios - both work well. The FT 840 is superior (better audio) in my opinion. Kim

Hi AB7Jk,
Thanx fer ur info. I find one problem for FT840. It doesnt have a narrow CW/RTTY filter. it only has a 500hz one. For casual using, it's ok,but not for contest.

How about your using?

You don't need a narrow filter for digital. Using a program like Digipan you want a wide frequency response.
