I have an old icom 740 and would like to use it on psk31. I know that care has to be taken in selecting an interface since the mic circuit is unique and can be burned out if the wrong interface is used. Has anyone here put an ic740 on psk31 and if so did you use a rigblaster or some other type of interface. If you have what interface model did you use and were there any mods needed to connect it to the icom rig?

I don't have the Icom but a Rigblaster will work with
darn near anything. I use the nomic version. It is
jumper selectable for whatever you want to hook it to.
Hope this is helpful.

One hint is here on the Heil Sound site:
http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/products/hc104/index.htm
It says that you need a blocking capacitor between the IC-740 mic input, and the coupling transformer of your soundcard interface.
At 300 Hz, a 10 ufd capacitor has an impedance of about 50 ohms. That should give you a wide-enough AF passband.
So I'd try a 10 ufd, 20 volt electrolytic capacitor, in series with the "hot" mic input, "+" side of the capacitor toward the rig.
Have you asked the RigBlaster makers (or any other soundcard manufacturer) about the problem?

Had my 740 on digi modes for sometime.
Picked up audio from ACC on back and feed audio in to
the MIC port. Just dont OVERDRIVE..I used a homebrew
interface. It is VERY easy to overdrive the MIC input, so use care and it will work fine.
