Greetings all...after many years off RTTY (ST-6/tuning scope, Model 15, Model 28KSR, Homebrewed 6502 system, HAL CT2100), I've decided to give it another go but this time with store bought stuff. My rig is a IC-756 Pro-3 (one of 15 rigs) which will decode RTTY and xmit in FSK.
Question: To what extent is the MicroHam DigiKeyer plug and play? Does the DigiKeyer only require a PS/2 keyboard and cable to the Pro-3 to transmit Baudot encoded FSK? Does it require an external PC to set it up first or is it truly stand alone out of the box? I've read the manual and have the impression that it is plug and play but there is no statememt that confirms it will do as I want with the Pro-3.
My problem is that with 5 rigs, four amps and some other accessories on the op desk, I don't have room for a PC/display to operate an applications RTTY program and I have no intentions of removing any HF gear for a stupid PC. So, with the DigiKeyer's small size, a mini-PS/2 keyboard and the Pro-3 I should be able to operate some basic RTTY within the constraints of my operating desk. I've also considered replacing the Pro-3 with a IC-7800, IC-7700 or IC-7600 as an alternative.
I know a PC with a display and applications program is the better setup than the Pro-3's mini-screen but I just don't have the room even for a small laptop.
Thanks, Fred/K1NVY
