W32A / PK-12 Reply

Hello, I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the cable from buxcomm.com that connects the W32A to a PK-12? Specifically this item :: 5D024 ::

http://www.buxcomm.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=403

I have bought two now thinking the first was just wired wrong but I believe they are both wired wrong. I have talked to "Buck" and he just stated that "they've been making them for years", perhaps wrong too. It seems that the male 5 pin din on this cable is wired just like the female plug of the PK-12. Meaning that if you looked at the two facing you they are wired right, but now plug the male into the female and, say the upper far left pin of the male is now in the upper far right pin of the female. I do have the PK-12 manual and know the pin-outs. This is also why I see that it might be wired wrong as I have tore the first cable apart on the 5 pin din end.

This cable will not transmit my W32A. When entering the CALibrate command on the PK-12 and toggling the "K" key on the computer, along with the "space bar" I see the XMT light light up on the PK-12 but not on the radio. Now taking an extra 5 pin din plug and touching the opposite pins on the male plug of the cable it works. Seems the PTT is crossed.

Now yes I have done a clean RESET of the PK-12. The W32A's squelch is closed with Power Saver OFF. I have no problem communicating with the PK-12 and the laptop, and I know my mint W32A works fine.

I could just cut off the 5 pin din on this cable and wire with my spare cable but I have read that there should be a resistor / capacitor on the PTT wire for this HT, I think, so I am wondering if buxcomm put that in or not? Perhaps hidden in the plug end for the radio? I don't know, if I tear it apart I will ruin that end.

Needless to say I am very disappointed. Curious if perhaps someone knows of another place to purchase this cable or if in fact the right resistor / capacitor is in place all ready before I hack my own cable together. I'll thank you for your time in advance...

Talked to Buck again after receiving a second cable, that didn't work by the way. He mentioned that the resistor / capacitor needed / required, was indeed in the cable.

Well I tore the first cable all apart on both ends and into the cable itself. I found nothing. Hmm....

Let me save you a lot of head ache if you are looking for a cable such as this one. Forget buxcomm.com, just go to MFJ and get their MFJ-5024B. I purchased this cable and it worked flawlessly right out of the box.
