HI,
I use an IC7400 (same as IC746Pro) and a PK232 for RTTY. With the PK232 connected my ssb audio is distorted so each time I want to operate either rtty or ssb its a plug in/out the PK232. I seem to remember it was the same with my IC765. Is this a stock problem with Icom's and is there a mod I wonder ?

Where is the PK232 connected and is it using AFSK audio tones or direct FSK?
If its connected to the MOD input on the ACC1 connector it may be loading down the audio circuits in the radio. The MOD input is designed to have a 10K input impedance. The MOD input is a tap into the Tx audio after the mike preamp. I don't believe it has a preamp of its own to isolate the connection from the mike audio. I think this is common to all Icom radios.

I've experienced the same problem with my 746PRO, as well as the IC-7000 and the IC-706MKIIG. The only ICOM rig I can use the 232 with and not experience SSB distortion is the IC-718. I can't get any answers out of Timewave or ICOM on this one, and I have tried combinations of different rigs and several PK232's, and the problem is constant.

Just a suggestion, if you only use your Packratt 232 for RTTY, there is a simpler way to use this mode. When Airlink Express is available again, download it and try RTTY, its so simple to use, you won't experience the problems you are having at the moment.

I need my 232 for PACTOR I, and sound card software won't do the job there.
