I Recently added a Signal link USB to the station and all runs well until I kick on the Amp. The waterfall locks up along with the radio and Signal Link. The station includes the following: ICOM 756 ProIII, Al82, IBM Thinkpad using XP running HRD w/DM780 and Signallink USB. Now, I can run full power into the dumy load, located just under the unit, with no problem. As soon as I switch to the antenna(s) everything lock ups and I need to reboot the computer to restart the programs. I have tried the following, put chokes on all the cables, low pass filters on the antenna outputs, checked all grounds. As I said everything works exceptionally well until I use the amp. Being new to the digital world I am stumped.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks and 73

This is not a smart aleck question, but why do you run an amp in digital modes? Most digital modes were designed to run with 50W or less..

Fair question.
I have only wire antennas and I have found that inorder to work DX during contests, on RTTY for example, additional power is sometimes needed. I also use the Signallink USB for CW during contests when chasing DX.
This of course has not been the case on such modes as PSK, etc, where minimal power is best.
Thanks for your input.

Sound like you have covered about everything I could suggest. Might check coax cables to make sure they are tight, make sure audio and USB cables are well away from RF cables. Make sure the USB cable is highly shielded. Also check other things that might be plugged into the computer (keyboard, mouse, etc.). Good luck!

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
After reading NA4IT's last note and checking with a friend who has the same unit, I switched out the USB cord that goes from the signal link to the computer. I switched it out for one that I used to connect my printer with my primary home computer. This cord is larger in diameter containing 24 AWG wire. All runs well now, finally.
The conclusion is obvious, RF was getting into the smaller diameter wire. For most station set ups the smaller gauge wire would be fine but if you find RF getting in a locking up your computer, try switching out the USB A/B cord.
Thanks again to NA4IT for stimulating my thought process.
