which sound card interface? Reply

I would like to hear which sound card interface you are using. Easy to hookup? easy to setup? works good after setup correctly? I am about to buy one and don;t want the wrong one.

Is there one that comes with the rca plugs for the patch in AF and PTT rca jacks plus one for CW key? That would be the easiest to connect. I have 3 old Yaesu radios and want to dedicate one of them to data mode use. The ft747 has af out but not in (must use mic plug). I prefer to not use the mic plug and rear panal connectors as well. The ft757 has seperate jacks for each line as well as the ft767.

I have already made a dongle that has no isolation and it was a bear to get everything adjusted right but it now works great. I am using a laptop and as long as it is running on battery there is no hum, but on power supply it hums a little.

I've been very happy this past year since finally breaking down and buying a SignaLink USB. It is incredibly easy to configure and get on the air. Everyone I've talked to with one has been on the air within minutes. I know somebody whose friend bought a RigBlaster at the same time and wasn't on after several days.

Personally I tried the RB Plug & Pray and didn't have any luck at all with it. It was very inconsistent. Sometimes it would work great and then it would stop for no apparent reason. I finally got rid of it. I know that some people have great luck, I did not.

I think with the SL you need two if you want to do CW. Either that or you'll keep having to open it up to change the jumpers. I've been wanting to do CW again for a while but I haven't gotten around to delving more into it.

Just as a heads up some people have complained about too much noise with the USB version and have gone back to the SL+. It doesn't seem to be a problem for me, at least not one that I'm aware of.

Thanks Cary for your input. I had read some about that one and liked all I read. I was trying to not have to make my own cable (which I will probably have to do). I want to be able to psk31, rtty and cw without using 2 units or having to swap cables. My radio desk makes cable changing very difficult. I saw that Tigertronics offers an unterminated cable so you can adapt it but when I have to do something like that it gets put off for quite a while. Funny how retirement gets you too busy to do the things you looked forward to doing when you "had plenty of time".

Great! I also received 2 direct emails with the same suggestion. It appears from the diagram I see that I will need an additional radio cable if I want to be able to use CW as well. So, I will need 2 unterminated radio cables with it and just switch the cable when I want to use CW?

I just ordered one with the unterminated cables. We will see.

Signalink USB...Fast Shipping! Ordered it on Monday. Arrived on Wednesday. Follow the directions for setup exactly as described, took 20 minutes from opening the box to finishing a psk31 QSO. 7 European contacts: 599 x 6, 489 x 1 on 20m, @25 watts. Not much bigger than a deck of cards. After a couple of slight RX audio adjustments on the first contact – never touched it again until I turned it off.
