KPC3 PLUS Problem

I have a KPC3+ which has been working flawlessly until last week. I did some antenna changes and shut the system down. When I brought it back up it worked for a while then I noted that the TNC and the computer weren't on speaking terms. After doing the usual rebooting and TNC reset I get the TNC log on when
I turn it on. I can change parameters in the TNC. So it appears the TNC and computer are talking. However, when I connect either to another station or my mailbox, they don't talk to each other. I can't disconnect or shift into command mode. I know I am missing something basic, but I am scratching my head.
Anyone have any ideas?
Here is the setup:
KPC3+ hooked to a Icom 28A and I'm running WINPAK.
Thanks
Newell

OK, to get back to command mode, the normal command is "Ctrl+C" on the keyboard. With Winpack, you also have to hit ENTER after you do the command.
When you reset it, did you disconnect power and remove the battery? Cheat note on removing the battery, don't. Slip a business card under the spring that holds the battery down.
Also, make sure it is in INTFACE TERMINAL.

NA4IT,
During this troubleshooting phase I replaced the battery since I got it used and had no idea how old it was. I did switch it back to INTFACE TERMINAL. I have tried using the enter key.
When I connected to my own mailbox in the past I could disconnecdt by simply entering the B command. Now when I am in my maiolbox it will not recognize any of the mailbox cmmands. It seems like once I am connected the TNC no longer recognizes commands from the terminal program.
That is the confusing part. I can seem to communicate with it normally until I connect with something.

My guru has entered his think tank... in the meantime, he suggests doing a "Restore D" and put it in INTFACE NEWUSER and see if the simple commands will work then when you do a connect.

OK. Did the RESTORE D and INTFACE NEWUSER.
Here is what I got when I tried to reboot and verify NEWUSER:

I also had trouble entering my call sign:

It took several tries. You can see that the difference between the commands I send and the results I get it would appear that communication between my computer and TNC are getting garbled. The question is, is it in the computer, the TNC, or the software. I have even replaced the keyboard to make sure it wasn't the source of the problem.
Still frustrated.

OK. I updated the software from WINPAK 6.5 to WINPAK 6.8. When I booted up this is what I got:

Commands still being garbled. When i did a connect to my mailbox I still couldn't disconnect or get back to command mode. It is beginning to look more and more like I have a TNC problem, don't it?

Try using our emcomm ops demo software in host mode. If that fails, then you know you have a hardware issue.
Its looks more like a old style serial port IRQ issue, but if you're using a USB to serial interface it could be the driver for the interface needs to be updated. Ive had so many hams blame the TNC or software for problems, when the issue is the driver may for the USB to serial interface may hgave a bug in it. That's why you want to get an updated driver.

I agree with CSS. You might want to try it on another computer. It could be serial port in the computer, USB to serial adapter, or something in the TNC.

OK, here is the scoop. I downloaded the Kam trial version and it talks to the TNC until I connect and then no more communication. I have the following setup:
VHF packet connected through a USB-serial adapter (COM 4) and a pactor station set up through a regular serial port (COM 1).
I swapped the two so that VHF packet was using the serial port on COM 1 and the pactor going to the USB adapter on COM 4. Still no packet but pactor functioned normally.
In my view I believe I have eliminated the problem being in the computer, cabling, or software. I am now convinced the problem is in the TNC. So the next question, has anyone had any experience sending these back to Kantronics? Is there some other place to send them? I have seen the KPC3+ for sale aroung $100 so, is it worth sending it back or should I just get another one?
Thanks.
