I am still confused, can anyone tell me the difference between a bandpass filter and a diplexer. A basic circuit design would help solve matters. You can also email me at but2@rediffmail.com

A band pass filter passes a specific frequency Band while blocking all others. For example one could pass from 144 to 146 MHz and stop everything higher than 146 MHz or lower than 144 MHz.

A diplexer is used to combine or split two different frequency bands into the same feed line, tranciever or antenna. For example a diplexer can be used to connect a 2m and a 70cm tranciever to the same feed line and antenna. Ideally the diplexer will attenuate the undesired signal at the other port suficiently to allow full duplex operation on the same antenna.

A diplexer can consist of two non over lapping band pass filters sharing one output port with separate input ports. More usually though, a diplexer consists of a high pass filter connected to the High frequency port and a Low pass filter to the low frequency port with a third port common to both filters. Picture a "Y" arangement with a high pass on the upper left arm of the "Y" and a low pass on the upper right arm of the "Y" with the bottom leg being common to both filters.

This would be much easier to explain if I could draw a picture or two! I hope this provides some clarification!
