It's getting time soon to renew my amateur licence. (April 2009) So, how do I do it? Do they send me something in the mail like when I renew my car license?

Within 90 days of expiration, go the the FCC ULS website and re-new. It's that easy!

You won't get a "time to renew" notice from the FCC. However, the ARRL will remind you (if you are a memeber) when it is time to renew if you've checked this option in your Members Only profile. Renewing on-line is very easy to do. You can find all the details on the ARRL website. I believe the ARRL will even do it for you for free if you are a member.

Someone may call you on the phone with a notice of time to renew!
Telling hams that their license is about to expire seems to be the bulk of traffic passed on the traffic nets now a days. Then another message to congratulate you on your recent renewal will jingle your phone again.
