TS 480 RX Audio Editor Function ? Reply
by KE5OKQ on November 29, 2008 Mail this to a friend!
I have a Kenwood TS-480HX and use the ARCP 480 control. The Kenwood in-depth manual mentions use of the Audio Editor Function. How do I download and use the function? What does it do?

Hello,

Check page 64 of the users manual (not In-Depth manual). Menu function 18 provides an equalizer for RX audio. I copied and pasted the section below. I have the TS-480SAT and it is fantastic.

"RX DSP EQUALIZER EQUALIZING RECEIVING AUDIO
Use Menu No. 18 to change the receiver frequency responses of the target signal. You can select one from 8 different receiver profiles including the default flat response. Selecting any of the following items from the Menu causes “RtEQ” to appear on the display.
• Off (oFF): The flat frequency response (default).
• High boost 1 (hb1): Emphasizes higher audio frequencies.
• High boost 2 (hb2): Emphasizes higher audio frequencies but lower audio frequency attenuation is less than High
boost1 (hb1).
• Formant pass (FP): Improves clarity by suppressing audio frequencies outside the normal voice frequency range.
• Bass boost 1 (bb1): Emphasizes lower audio frequencies.
• Bass boost 2 (bb2): Emphasizes lower audio frequencies but higher audio frequency attenuation is less than Bass boost1 (bb1).
• Conventional (c): Attenuates 2 kHz or more audio frequency slightly.
• User (U): Reserved for the ARCP software. Off (flat) is programmed at the factory as a default."

After reading your question again, the answer is in the ARCP-480 software help file.

"Click "MENU" in the Main window, or select "Radio" > "Menu..." in the Menu bar. The "MENU" window appears. Select one of the following equalizers.

18: DSP RX EQUALIZER
19: DSP TX EQUALIZER "

The help file provides complete instructions on how to use the equalizer.

Hi OM,
The Audio Editor function is found under the pull down menu "DSP/ Filter". There is a section on examples and building your own. I have built and saved several CW filters of various widths and center frequencies. These are applied to the radio in the "User" choice of menu 18 for the receive audio. Hope this gets you started.
