If your 730 is as stable as the one I owned, forget it!

I know that's not the answer you were looking for, but there it is.

Frequency stability is the only problem I can think of. Here's what happens:

When you receive, you can turn on the PSK31 AFC, and your software will track the frequency of the received signal, even if the IC-730 drifts.

But when you transmit, your frequency _does_ change with transmitter drift, and you can't compensate for it. Your QSO partner can follow it with his own AFC, but nobody will appreciate it when your signal crosses another one, on the waterfall.

So the question is:

. . . How much does the IC-730 drift?

Try checking against WWV, transmitting a 20-watt carrier for 2 minutes on 20m, and then checking with WWV again. If you've drifted more than 100 Hz, you _will_ interfere with other QSO's during a ragchew.

Aside from that, I think you just need a soundcard interface. If there's a rear-panel "line-level" input, or a "phone patch" input, on the IC-730, use it, rather than the mic input. The IC-730 mic input will need a blocking capacitor to keep mic bias voltage from screwing-up the soundcard interface.

Charles

PS -- Since I don't have an IC-730, you can take these comments with several grains of salt.
