Well, Etienne, since no one else with a more informed opinion has spoken....
I have a couple of friends with the MFJ1798. The both said there are a lot of parts and it takes some time and care to put it together properly. After it's together and up both say it makes a satisfactory antenna.
Like all vertical antennas, it has "low angle of radiation," meaning it's a good antenna for distances in excess of 800 to 1,000 kM, and a poor antenna for lesser distances.
And that's all I can really tell you.

Let me fill up on Pete's comments. I have had one for two years now. Went that route while I put the shack together. Lots of parts. I took about 6 hours to put it together. However, construction is excellent and don't have a problem after two years. I have used it for 6 meters and HF with excellent results. Can't comment on 2 meters because I have another antenna for that and don't use that section.
I assembled the antenna per the instructions and did some initial tuning. However, the use of a tuner will really expand the bandwidth. You may be able to load up to 160 meters but I don't know the efficiency at that wavelength. The antenna will withstand full legal power, though.
Some recommendations:
1) Take the Air Core balun and tape it with a good electrical tape. This will protect the teflon wire and will avoid the balun from unwiding from the PVC pipe core.
2) Also, protect the place where the driving wires are in contact with the antenna aluminum pole. MFJ recommends using the worm clamps to keep the wires in place. You may also want to protect these areas with electrical tape.
3) Mine is mounted only 5 feet from the ground and has very good performance. However, suggest you mount higher if you can. Use a good pipe filled with concrete. I used a skinny pipe and the thing topple over in a winter storm in February 2001.
4) Use the hardware with the antenna. Any other stuff tends to rust.
That is an excellent buy for $160.00 US. Let us know how you make out.
Good luck and 73 DE Bert @ KA2UUP
