Is there a reason you do not want to ship your radio to the Yaesu Factory Service Center in CA given that your radio does not weigh that much to begin with? PLEASE do not tell me its because shipping is a financial problem because then I will have to inform you that the repairs will then be financially IMPOSSIBLE because you cannot afford them.
My repair guy on the NE Coast of the US charges a minimum of 300 dollars (minimum) plus parts plus shipping back plus insurance on shipping. Bottom line bill average every repair no matter how small...500 bucks a pop. Which I consider very very cheap because the factory techies and Yaesu would have easily charged me 300 bucks more (factor techies are NOT inexpensive).
AND THAT is on top of the cost that I had to pay UPS to ship my radio to the guy to fix it in the first place.
As the fella says radio repairs aint cheap.
BUT BEFORE you do ship your radio call the Yaesu Service Center (see the yaesu web site) or to anyone else for that matter to verify that they will even fix your radio in the first place. Yaesu has a refused to repair my FT 767 because its too old and parts are no longer available. IF they can no longer get the parts then depending on the age it is a good likelyhood that the independants can no longer get the parts as well.
SOMETIMES it better and more economical in the long run to just bite the bullet and just buy a new factory fresh out of the box radio that has a warranty to take those nasty repair bills off your mind for at least 6 months.

1) Please do not post using all capitals, it's the equivalent of shouting.
2) Try posting in the Mods & Repairs section of Eham.
3) Try contacting Yaesu USA at http://www.yaesu.com/?cmd=ContactUs&DivisionID=65 or locate a dealer using the web page http://www.yaesu.com/?cmd=DealerLocator&DivisionID=65

No place in Alabama.
There are Yaesu repair folks in TN and NC, I think those are the closest to you.
The "factory repair center" here in L.A. does a very good job, and they're usually quite fast.
In all cases, it seems you'd need to pack it and ship it.

Note to HFRF: What part of the word "please" confused you into thinking that was anything more than a request?
BTW... All caps ain't cool.
Feel free to be a douche if the bag fits. Wouldn't want to interfere with your right to make an ass of yourself.

"WHY ARE ALL YOU COWARDS...blah, blah, blah..."
Everyone who posted listed their callsign. YOU are
hiding behind a login and refused to list a name or email address. Who's the coward?
To the original poster: I too think that a repair of your rig at this point might not be economically
reasonable considering:
1)What the repaired rig is worth.
2) What you can buy new off the shelf as an entry level rig comparable to the FT-890.
Just my two cents. Your mileage may vary. Offer not available in all stores. See retailer for details.
