IC706MkIIG - Memory programming Reply

The operations manual is either written above my head or is just not clear on how to write a CTCSS code for repeater access into a memory channel. I have accessed the part of the menu to dial in the frequency of the tone code but it is not retained to memory and the FM-T mode does not show up. Please help me decipher the manual. Thanks....

Hi Bart: It's been several years since I played with a '706 but as best I remember you have to hold the memory write button down until it beeps. And that seemed to take half the night.

assume we are setting VFO A
(I have skipped getting around the menus)
1. Set the desired repeater freq.
(assumes auto-DUP is set correctly for that freq.)
2. Set tone frequency (both encode and decode if you want decode)
3. (is this your missing step?) press the TONE button until you see the symbol in the upper right showing FM-T
(or FM-TSQL if you want decode as well).
4. now select the memory of choice and
5. NOW press the MW key (it only takes about a 1 second press)

Just setting the pl frequency does not make it get saved. You might have forgotten to select the PL mode which shows as -T or -TSQL next to the FM symbol.

Hope this helps. If not then there is a ?broken? menu button that applies to the MW function or a real bug in the software.

Thanks for these steps...they sound like what I need to do this evening. Other ideas/thoughts are still welcome.

Bart, thanks for asking this question. I also couldn't program the codes for my new 706. If you find any other steps that need to happen, please send me a message.
