Seeking person email elmer -- help? Reply
by K0AST on October 22, 2002 Mail this to a friend!
Hi,

Newer to ham radio, but getting a good feel of it. Passed the General ticket, now on to the Extra. HOWEVER, I know ZIP about electronics. Ask me to wire 110/220v stuff & I can do your whole house. Ask me to breadboard a simple circuit & I am lost. I could really use someone out there who has enough experience in electronics to help me with the projects I attempt to tackle like 555 timer circuits, or maybe reference a parts data sheet online to tell me how to wire the part in the correct way the first time. We can do this all via email, and I regret to say I haven't much to offer back in return unless you live Seattle area & need some help wiring your house. You would get my eternal online gratitude for answering my 0-3 emails a week. Any takers?

Thanks,

Dan

Yeah, I'll help ya...
I'm a cranky, bitchy old man that has been building and designing stuff for over 30 years...
If we get into something you don't get...we'll back up 'til we find out the principle is that you don't understand and then study that 'til ya do get it then do it all over...
I won't just tell ya answers mostly, but I'll lead you so you can teach yourself.

If you wanna do it, just e-mail me,

The ARRL Handbook is the best Elmer there is. You can
carry it with you anywhere, read it anytime , and it
does not require any acknowledgement. You can learn
AC,DC,RF,AF,digital and do-it-yourselfing as well.
The newest version may simply be called
"The Amateur Radio Handbook"
I am not advocating any ARRL policies
or actions, just that they put out a good book. Even
after 25 years as a HAM I still consult mine.

The ARRL also has a decent book on basic electronics I would reccommend..it's done in layman's terms.

I also would/can help.

I'll be glad to help also. And if you get down into
Oregon on occasion, you can stop by and see if there
is anything of interest on the workbench or in the
junk box.

Hi Dan,
I'll be glad to help any way I can.. I've been in the field for over 35 years; I don't know everything; then again, nobody does. But I'll be glad to help if I can. Just contact me: mycall@juno.com.
73,
Larry WA9SVD
P.S. Ask 100 hams, and you'll probably get 120 answers. ;-)
