Has anybody had problems with their DX-70 not putting out full power on the higher bands. Mine will only put out about 40 watts on 160M and gets lower the higher I go. I suspect a bad PA. Alinco, tells me that they are rebuilding PA as none are available from Japan. Any thoughts?

The DX-70 has an internal high / low power switch
which limits output to 40 or 50 watts. There are also adjustments for the PA stage adjacent to the switch. It might be possible that some bad spots have developed in the trimmers used for the adjustments. It is also possible that the SWR power fold down circuit may be out of adjustment or you actually have a problem with your antenna or tuner that is tripping this circuit.
Also, there is a re-set procedure than can be done to the DX-70. (not at home and do not quite remember the whole procedure) I had serious power fall off on 40 meters while mobile, for whatever reason, the reset procedure restored it and I never quite knew why it dropped in the first place. Alinco has a PDF copy of their entire tech manual on their website.

I had a similar problem with mine: suddenly had about 10 watts out on 40 (or was it 20?) and only about 3-4 watts on other bands. I tried to find the problem myself, but with only the owners manual and no experience with this radio, I sent it to ATOC (the factory's repair center, you can find them at www.alinco.com).
Anyway, if I read the service ticket right, the problem was the switching transistors that steer the relays fo rthe bandpass filters.
I shipped the radio on a thursday (from Georgia), had it back 8 days later!!!!!!
THey told me $100 to $150 for the repair, but then sent it back FREE - ticket said "warranty"! (Mine was almost 1 year old at the time - that was two weeks ago.)
Hope this helps - my point is to NOT be afraid to ship it to them, they treated me well and they have good reviews on eHam. Alinco seems to understand the importance of good, timely service...
