With history, pics, and even tune-up procedures, here is the definitive FT-101 info-site:
http://www.qsl.net/nw2m/ft101.html
This site came in handy when I decided to become a HAM and take my deceased father's rigs (FT-101's B & E) to my place for permanent duty.
Thanks to Al, NW2M

If you need a manual or schematics for the radio you can check out my web site which has them available for download, for free i might add! I also have a copy of the article on how to change out the 6JS6C sweep tube finals for 6146 tubes. A big debate about changing that, but the good quality and long life sweep tubes are getting very scarce out there. Not to mention that 6JS6C's are no longer manufactured anywhere in the world. The 12BY7A driver tube however is easy to find, or even a sub for it.
Have fun with the FT-101B, it's a good old rig. At one time i had a FT-101, FT-101B, FT-101E, FT-101EE, and even the FT-101F, but alas all of them have been sold and a modern LCD beauty sits in there place.

another site is http://bama.sbc.edu/ they have them free for download in pfd format.. Boat anchor manual acrhive..
by the way, to tune , after a bit of warm up, first limit your carrier insertion to the 1st or second mark from the counter clock wise position, go to tune, turn preset the knob to the proper band, and but the band select on the proper band, near the frq you want. Be sure you are not tuning up on top of ssome one by listening first.
hit the transmit button on the mic, turn the load, then the plate for max output on the power meter, do a couple seconds then let it cool, then a couple more seconds then let it cool, when you max the output on the plate know you als "dip" the plate current so I use the power out to set it.
now double check your antenna for minimum swr ( be sure its below 2.5 or 3.0 to 1)(by keying up for a couple seconds and adjusting then llet it cool.
Once this is all done the raise the power to maximum and double check everything then back the power down about 5 watts, this will give you a cleaner signal and your tubes will last years longer.
Have some one show you how to do this if you can. It makes it easier, or follow the instructions in the maunal.
I like using a cross needle meter(mfj 815b, or a diawa chc101l) for hf and a diawa, that way you see foward and reverse power at the same time. these can be had for $100 new or around $40- $50 on ebay, good luck and have fun.. 73 tom N6AJR
