All Bands, All Modes, On A Budge Reply

What radios or combination of radios would do this on a budget?

It kind of depends on what the budget is and what you mean by "all bands" and "all modes". I'm not trying to be smart, I just don't know if you want 160-2M, 440, etc. or if you want to include PactorII and III in your "all modes".

I'm interested in HF, 6 Meter, 2 Meter, and 440 Mhz with SSB, CW, and FM for the most part.

I've looked at the Icom IC-706MkIIG but I don't really like the size of the radio. I would really rather go with a high quality, "bigger" piece of used gear, or even multiple pieces of used gear.

Budget is a concern, I want to do it right, but as affordably as possible.

Ah, I see.

Try an IC-736 and an IC-820H. That will get you what you ask for, and you might be able to get the pair of them for about $1100 (based on a quick check on eBay).

Good stuff, cheap.

I couldn't find either of these on ebay... I will search around some more... maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions.

If you are not running mobile, I'd stick with separate units - one for HF and one for VHF/UHF.

KZ1X is right on the two radio selections- both excellent units. It may take a week for the radios of interest to show up on eBay. Avoid eBay ads with statements like 'It worked when a last used it a year ago' or 'Do not have an antenna to test radio', etc.

Whats yer budget?

What ticket do you have?

Simply because 440 and 160 meters are there, doesn't mean you'll enjoy them.

What would be wrong with an HF rig, and a HT if you really love repeaters?
