IC706MKIIG 1/4 setting Reply

I've read the 706 manual from cover to cover, and asked two other 706 owners, and can not find the answer to this question. What does the "1/4" setting do? The manual lists it as a CW and RTTY setting, and says it is underlined when the function is active, but says nothing about it's purpose.

I believe it reduces the tuning rate so that you can "fine tune" a signal.

It did not appear to affect the tuning when I tried it, although from the description in the manual, that would have been a likely reason.

Bob gave you the exact answer. You have to select the 1/4 range (pushing the button quickly-holding it in for longer than a second or two is too long), and then the change is evident. Personally, I never found it to be of much use.

Most useful for tuning RTTY. If you use a '706 for RTTY that is. One of many features on modern trnasceivers that don't get used much.

I do use it on my PRO II for RTTY, but not with my '706.. I find mobile operation of RTTY a bit taxing.
