Receiver Performance MarkV versus Mark V Field

I was reviewing data from a Sherwood presentation at Dayton and noticed that the close in receiver performance (Blocking Dynamic Range @ 2kHz spacing) for the Yaesu Mark V was higher than the Mark V Field - 70db for the Mark V and 60db for the Field. I understand the obvious differences between the two models such as the 200 watts versus 100 watts, but why the difference in receiver performance? I thought they shared the same basic receiver. Is it maybe measurement differences on a model by model basis?

Have you compared the two schematics? (I haven't.) The rigs came out a couple of years apart and I can't find anywhere that Yaesu claimed the receivers were identical.
The ARRL expanded laboratory test reports (on line) do indicate some significant differences in receiver performance between the two models, mostly favoring the MK-V, and they draw no conclusions and make no schematic comparisons...I'm kind of surprised they didn't, since this leaves an obvious question.

An old dog learns never to bit the hand that feeds it. Why would anyone expect QST to give a definitive comparison on any type of radio from a vendor advertising in the magazine.

I took the light weight approach and compared their brochures. The information presented regarding both model’s receiver was almost identical up to including optional filters, which lead me to conclude they were the same. I don't think so now. Steve your right, the best way may be to read the schematic. All said it looks like the extra $350 for the Mark V gets a buyer more than just an extra 100 watts.

Actually I took a look at the QST review of the Mark V Field. On several points the reviewer made it clear that the Field did not measure up to the Mark V's receiver performance, and in a few instances was a bit behind the original 1000MP. QST still gave the Field decent marks, but the message on receiver performance was there.

Another item regarding the Field vs the Mark V...the Mark V has been plagued by transmitter failures..mostly blown finals. Not sure whether the problem has been resolved, but seriously affected a number of owners during the first couple of years. I have the feeling the Field was introduced to offer an alternative while not losing all the investment in the Mark V design.
