IC706MkIIG Cycling On & Off and the PWRGate PG

I recently bought a West Mountain Radio PWRGate PG-40 for my shack. It's a great unit. I hooked it up to my Astron power supply, a large gel cell battery, and my ICOM IC-706MKIIG. One day, I returned to my shack (I'd left the radio on, as usual) to find the ICOM cycling on and off by itself. I'd never seen this happen prior to hooking up the PWRGate and I haven't seen it happen again, since I disconnected the PWRGate. Now, I use the PWRGate to keep the battery topped off, but I never leave the units unattended when they're all hooked together. Kind of a bummer, 'cause it'd be nice to be able to trust the setup. Anyone else have that sort of problem?

I also have a brand new IC706MKIIG. I am running it off of a large AGM deep cycle battery. I charge the battery with a marine battery charger. I turn the charger off when using the radio because the charger is electrically noisy.
One day, I left the ICOM on when I went to work and it was set to do an automatic APRS beacon. The battery charger was OFF.
When I got home that evening, the ICOM was cycling on and off as you described. I believe this happens when the battery voltage goes below a certain low limit, but I am not sure. I have only left the radio on and run the battery down once.
Once I got the battery charged up again, all was fine.

The 706 series of radios require at least 12.8 VDC to transmit at reduced power, and 13.2 VDC to transmit at full power. I ran a test with mine. At 11.8 VDC, it goes off. Completely. Dead. Presumably if the supply voltage came back up, it might come back on. I had not tried that, so perhaps I will.
What it sounds like, is the voltage was dropping, the charger kicks in and brings it back up and the 706 comes on again, then the charger kicks out, the voltage drops, etc.
I, too, run my 706 on a car battery with a constant charge being applied from an MFJ 35 amp linear power supply. If, however, I turn off the MFJ, and run the 706 at 100 watts on just the battery, it does not take long for it to start shutting down on me.
Same applies in the car. If I shut the engine off and try talking for a while on HF sideband, I'm good for perhaps 30 minutes before I start seeing problems. I get just about that much use out of the battery in the house. Both batteries, I admit, are old and tired! But I doubt I could extend the life of operation very much with new, fully charged batteries.
