Thanks to all with the information on J-Poles. The main piece of information I need however is the "twisted wire" matching network. Dave (WD5G) thinks the article originally appeared in the 13th edition of the ARRL Hints&Kinks. Dave tried to explain the overall construction, but I think I need a picture to get it. If anyone has a drawing, I would really appreciate it.

It is an Adobe Reader file with the j pole design using the capacitive wire as described.

I have no experience with this antenna personally. I see there are a few places on the web that refer to it as the American Legion J Pole Antenna.
