I was wondering what people have in their go bags for emergency communications, and what is required for semi-long term communications.
Thanks in Advance,
Jonathan (N9TJX)

There are different levels of go-kits; 8hr, 24hr, 72hr, extended -- or however *YOU* choose to organize your equipment. Also, consider with whom you are likely to need to communicate: local or state/regional or national (V/UHF vs. NVIS on 80/40M vs upper HF).
Check out the original source for ARRL courses:
http://home.earthlink.net/~w0ipl/EmCom/
Also Oahu RACES has a good list:
http://aditl.com/races/cklist.html
Virginia RACES:
http://www.va-ares.org/index.shtml
ARRL Level I EmComm Course Manual (order hardcopy from ARRL, not available on the web):
http://www.arrl.org/catalog/?category=Public+Service&words=
And Hams for Enduring Freedom has a lot of links:

Get whatever training is offered in your area, and do ARRL EmComm CCE level I (at least) if there isn't any local stuff. Go-kits are covered in the training. Take the various lists, go through them, and figure out what *you* need for your situation.

Hey Joe,
Thanks for posting the list. I hadn't thought of putting sun screen in my kit, and it should have been a "no brainer". Thanks for the reminder.
I also like your idea of the cassette audio adapter. I would NEVER have thought of that, but it's a smart idea.
Two things I don't see on your list, that I would add:
A flashlight (or two), and a clip board.
I have 2 small Maglights that run on AA batteries, with a package of extra bulbs in my kit. My HT and my FT-817 radio also run on AAs, so I can carry one large package of spare batteries, and be covered for everything. That's aside from the gel cell (because some times you KNOW you won't need that much power, and a handfull of AAs is lighter to carry than a gel cell).
As for the clipboard...well, sometimes the agencies served have their own forms they want you to use...you gotta have something to hold them while you are writing.
Pre-packaged handi-wipes are a nice alternative to carrying soap, if you need to go light. I also ALWAYS have two bottles of water and a handfull of energy bars in my kit.
