I have a friend who knows a woman who is from western Samoa. At this point she has been unable to communicate with the Island. Here is the note she sent me

Hi Dr. Crocker,
Thanks so much for even attempting to help us. My friend (Ese - short for Agaese) is trying to locate her family. At this time if she can even find out if the villages are standing that would bring her some relief.. Here's the info I have that she's looking for. FWIW, I have heard from other hams there are no "nobs" on Samoa. Maybe that means something to you. They say HF radio might work (I have no idea what that means, either).

Western Samoa, Island of Savai'i, the village of Faga (this is her hometown village. Her father is chief of 1 of the 2 tribes on the island but don't know his name).

American Samoa Island the village of Nuuuli (pronounced "new" "oo (as in moon)" "Lee"

her sister lives in Apia on the Western Samoan island on Upoulu (pronounced "U" "po (long "O") "lu ( long "u"). She knows there is major destruction there. She will be sending me her name later tonight.

I have also advised her to sign up with the Red Cross who is doing Samoan disaster relief. Thanks again for even considering helping us. You are a blessing to us.

Does anybody out there have any info I might pass along and help these people out?

My thanks and 73

W9OY
