Antenna Coupler Reply
by W9IPR on August 3, 2004 Mail this to a friend!
I have an antenna coupler made by Sunair Electronics model CU-110. It has a 14 volt motor operating a 10 position switch that tunes a long wire to 10 different frequencies.

I am looking for a schematic that defines how the motor control operates. I have the control head with the 10 position channel switch also.

I plan to modify the coupler to provide a 10 band vertical.

I would appriciate any information anyone might have on this unit.

The motorized switch in the remote box will have (at
least) one wafer dedicated to the control function.
Basically the wafers are arranged so that the control
box puts the motor drive voltage on one wire. The wafer
in the remote box connects all contacts to the common
wiper EXCEPT the contact selected: the motor rotates
the switch until it reaches the contact matching the
control box setting, which opens the circuit and stops
the motor.

At least this is a common implementation - your unit
may have a different control mechanism, but generally
similar. If you look carefully at the wafer wiring
on both switches it should be clear how it works.
