One more added item - Someone had a question about my dimensions:

Boom = 30 inches meaning Cross Pieces are about 30 inches a part.

Cross Pieces = 24 Inches Across or 12 Inches from center

Hole Spacing from Center, but this did not seem critical:

12 in
11 in
10 in
9 in
8 in
7 in
6 in
5 in
4 in
3 in

Total Turns = 10

Hi All,

A few months ago I posted a note about my homebrew version of this Antenna - I've done a little better write up that I have posted on my webpage.

Hi,

I just passed my general and looking for a decent homebrew antenna stumbled upon the pancake dipole. I have seen the instructions but need to know details about connecting the spirals to the feed line. If some one can clear that up, I'd appreciate it.

"I just passed my general and looking for a decent homebrew antenna"

Unless you really, desperately need an antenna that small, I'd start with a regular 1/2 wave dipole.

If you need to fit it in a tighter than 1/2 wavelength space, you can dangle the ends down, but keep them up high enough that people can't reach them.

These little antennas are not what I'd recommend to a new guy. The simple 1/2 wave dipole is a great start and a "gold standard" because it radiates very well with no critical adjustments... so it's easy to build and makes a great antenna to compare other antennas to.

It's hard to make a half wave dipole into a bad antenna. It's easy to make a small antenna into a bad antenna (and sometimes it had no hope in the first place)
