Ameco AC-1 type transmitter Reply
by WE5I on May 17, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
I'm building a transmitter based on the later Ameco AC-1 schematic. I need to know the amperage carrying values of the three 2.5 mH RF chokes.

The schematic parts list http://members.cox.net/we5i/Images/AmecoAC1.pdf simply calls for 2.5 mH RF Chokes, but when I go to buy RF chokes, choices have to be made as to amperage capacity and self-resonace, etc.

Does anyone know specifically what RF chokes belong in the Ameco AC-1?

Thanks and 73.

I think I bought mine, for a dual 6L6 xmitter from Mouser, 100ma 2,5mh.

I found these, 160ma:

I agree, 200mA should be plenty and probably 100mA would be sufficient.

I remember when I bought them that I was surprised they were less expensive than ones on eBay, plus, I was able to order all resistors, caps etc from them at the same time.

Xformer, choke, and variable caps for the Pi network came from eBay.

I bought the knobs from the place Steve bought wire by the pound from.

Best from Tucson

It's really very simple.

The AC-1 is rated 15 watts and has plate voltage of at least 250 volts. P = E x I so the plate current cannot be more than about 60 mA. If the plate voltage is higher, the plate current is less.

The rectifier in the AC-1 is rated for 70 mA maximum, too.

100 mA RF chokes are more than adequate. Get air-core ones.
