I cannot take credit for this as I read it on another ham board. But someone noticed and after reading their post I also noted that there are a large number of classes for the techie license but few classes to instruct the General and Extra Licenses. In my geographical region there are virtually no classes that instruct for General and Extra Class Licenses. In fact I know of absolutely none at all. We teach a lot ot techie courses on an ogoing bass and just cut them loose to procede pretty well much on their own.
Just wondering if there were any efforts in other geographical regions to extend a continued training in the form of classes for the General and or Extra License?

I haven't been able to attend any, but here in Baltimore the Baltimore Amateur Radio Club offers classes for all three levels of exams.

I want to thank LSR for making my point, being that he was the only one who stepped forward to state that they did. And to contratulate them for having said classes.
Well if nothing else I do not feel so bad about it now that our geographical region is not the only one who does not have General and Advanced License classes.

I'm looking into getting my Extra this fall or Winter. I used to know all the required math but my Tech schooling was 30yrs ago so I have some studying to do. There all all kinds of online or computer training for upgrading but many of them would be what the Computer cert guys call "Brain Dumps" Meaning answers without knowledge, or strictly teaching to the test. I'm afraid short of a tech school we won't find the depth and focus needed to do the trick

The ARRL book explains everything pretty well. I used it alone with the W5YI book to pass my Extra. W5YI has better memory tricks, and ARRL has a much deeper explanation of the theory and how everything works. And best of all, if you get stuck, I'm sure there are some guys here on the forums that will help you through it.
Best of luck!

Can I get a gold star too?
I just finished up teaching a General upgrade course. I had a couple of students that were unlicensed as well. At the end of the course we had 2 new Techs and 6 new Generals. We even had a new Extra.
I've been asked to teach an Extra class but I'll have to see. It's a huge time commitment and the YL wasn't too happy that we couldn't go anywhere this summer. :-)

I have personally never heard of an extra class, but I have seen general classes. When I was going to school in Terre Haute, IN the local club (WVARA), put on a tech class about every other year, and taught code to the tech class (that way they could use the HF portions if they passed the Element 1 exam during their test).
My local club (Hoosier Lakes Radio Club) just got done with a general class a few months ago and all but one passed.
I think extra is just one of those things that if you want to earn it, you've got to work for it whether a class is availible or not
