Hi Fellow Hams,
I passed the Tech and General today (10-17-09) and am very excited . I have a local club (95252 area code) with two members who will Elmer me as I go along. I have ordered my rig, a used Icom Pro 756 III with power supply and external speaker. I asked one of my Elmers if he would be willing to inspect and run the transceiver through its paces, of course he is more than willing and is as excited as I am.
The last think I truly need is the one thing all amatuer radio operators must have to be on the air, an antenna! This is were the choices almost become overwhelming. A dipole has been suggested and I have trees and room for one, but still having a few dollars left burning a hole in my pocket, was hoping to purchase a used tower and antenna for HF work as well as UHF and VHF work. Suggestions appreciated.
Once again, to all Hams, thanks for being on the air and I'll update my profile as soon as the FCC updates the database in a couple of weeks or so.

Congrats on the 2fer!! :) Throw up some wire and take advantage of your trees for the time being. The tower and beam will take some time and proper planning. The kinds and types of wire you put up will somewhat be determined by the space and configuration of the trees you want to use.
Good Luck! This is a great hobby and has so many facets that I'm sure you will find many niches that will keep you busy.
Let us know when your call comes up in the database.
