All,
I am very interested to understand what happend to an old Ham I lived near in Schenectady/Niskyuna.
When I was 7-9 I used to walk through his antenna farm and yank on the guy lines to high antennas. He must have had 6 or so LARGE antennas. When we would yank, sometimes the antennas would rotate...we obviously thought it was from our yanking....
I believe he was a big time Ham in the 60-70s, likley worked for GE (which was based in Schenectady). I got a chance to see his ham shack, which was actually his whole basement, with racks of gear, amateur television, etc. He must have had a 20-30' of desk space with radios above, including radios in the rack and such.
I would like to find out who he was I think he was 60 years old in the mid 70s....if you know Niskayuna Schenetady he lived on Troy/Schenectady Road, a few houses east of Pearse road (I live a little more east on "2576 Old Troy Road").
Hear is a google map of the location. I am sending a similar note to a local ham club for info, just thought I would check here....I always thought his radio shack was the coolest place in the world...
Seems hard to find a search DB for older hams....certainly he has long since become an SK...his antennas don't show up on the google map.....

Thanks!

W2PV, Dr. James (Jim) L. Lawson. His address in the 1976 callbook was 2532 Troy Rd, Schenectady, 12309.
Pictures of his antennas are at

Do a google search on W2PV, and you'll find he was a very famous contester, now in the CQ Contest Hall of Fame. Many contests were won from his station, often with guest operators. He was also an antenna expert--half of the hits you'll get on a GoogleSearch will be references to folks using a "W2PV yagi." He published at least one book on yagi antenna design. There's also a college scholarship (administered by the ARRL Foundation) in his name.

Thanks so much!
My father told me a few weeks ago that he thought the name was Lawson.....and on that same day I came across Lawson's book at the library!
Your info helps prove the connection. Thanks for the pictures, it really brings back memories.
THAT was an antenna farm!
