KE6VRK has recently complained numerous times during QSOs about the quality of his cellphone service, and he and I are usually on different schedules... I started thinking there must be a way to mod an ordinary telephone answering machine and connect it to a 70 cm transceiver via a DTMF decoder board, the idea being that KE6VRK can transmit a selected DTMF tone, unkey to hear my call in CW when the machine is triggered, then transmit his message and ID. The probem he and I are having is one of matching the transceiver's audio output to the answering machine's actuation circuit, with a signal the answering machine will recognize. It is not the same as a one-way repeater (I looked it up). Anyone tried this before?
