FT8900 Antenna Advise Please Reply
by KD8LHB on October 31, 2009 Mail this to a friend!
I'm new to the hobby and my frist radio is going to be a FT8900. I drive a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ. It has a fiberglass top in the winter and a soft top in the summer. Don't realy want to drill holes in the hood. Any advise? Thank you Doug

Well I do not know any that you don't have to drill but the UHV-4 Comet is made just for the FT-8900R, it also gets good reveiws.

Since you'll never use 10 or 6M FM, get the 8800 instead and a Larsen NMO 2/70. Do a search here in the mobile forum, mounting antennas on jeeps has been covered a bunch of times.

You got a bull bar on the front of that jeep?

I've seen antenna mounts on the side rails of the windsheld that don't interfere with doors/roof, but I don't think you would care for a CR8900 hanging on it.

No offense, but it's a jeep - people cut holes in 'em all the time - I don't think it's going to kill resale.
